Keeping the Books:
Too young to be taken seriously behind the cash register for our family business, I started my working career behind the scenes. My family owned several bookstores over the years, and maintaining the accounting ledgers was one of my many jobs. I later found my way to American Cellular when the industry was in its infancy and mobile phones were the size of a suitcase! While there, I was tasked with taming inventory control, roaming billing, A/P, A/R, and eventually was responsible for cash accounting. After a 10-year stint in cellular, including a few buyouts, I decided to return to the family business and managing all aspects of our busy college textbook store.
In 2006, I was hired by S.I.R. as a Production Manager, proofing documents, updating S.I.R.’s website, photographing events and staff, as well as assisting the CEO. In 2013, when S.I.R.’s previous CFO moved out of state, I was asked to fill my current role — what a journey it has been!
